• Zymography: MMP activity can be assessed using gelatin or casein zymography, where the MMPs degrade a substrate embedded in a polyacrylamide gel. MMP antibodies can be used post-zymeographic analysis to confirm specific MMP involvement in substrate degradation.

• MMP-1 (Collagenase-1): Primarily involved in the breakdown of interstitial collagens (types I, II, and III), MMP-1 is frequently studied in diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and cancer.
