BBS Antibodies

BBS Antibodies

BBS (Bardet-Biedl Syndrome) antibodies target proteins associated with Bardet-Biedl Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects various bodily systems, including vision, obesity, polydactyly, kidney function, and cognitive development. BBS proteins are integral to the formation and function of cilia, which are critical for cellular signaling and sensory processes. BBS proteins are part of the BBSome complex, responsible for the transport of signaling molecules to and from the cilia. Mutations in BBS genes lead to ciliary dysfunction, contributing to the clinical manifestations of Bardet-Biedl Syndrome.

Content and Structure of BBS Antibodies

BBS antibodies are designed to recognize specific epitopes of BBS proteins, particularly those involved in the BBSome complex such as BBS1, BBS4, BBS10, and others. These antibodies are available in both monoclonal and polyclonal forms, providing researchers with tools to study individual BBS proteins or the entire BBSome complex. Monoclonal antibodies offer high specificity for a particular BBS protein, while polyclonal antibodies can recognize multiple forms or isoforms of BBS proteins, providing more comprehensive detection in various cell types or tissues.

BBS antibodies are typically purified via protein A/G affinity chromatography, ensuring high specificity and minimal cross-reactivity. They may also be conjugated with labels such as HRP, FITC, or biotin for different detection methods.

Application of BBS Antibodies
  • Western Blotting (WB): BBS antibodies are widely used in Western blotting to detect the presence and expression levels of BBS proteins in cell or tissue lysates. T
  • Immunohistochemistry (IHC): BBS antibodies are utilized in IHC to detect BBS protein localization in tissue samples.
  • Immunofluorescence (IF): In IF, BBS antibodies are used to visualize the localization of BBS proteins within cells, particularly in relation to the ciliary structure.
  • Flow Cytometry (FACS): BBS antibodies conjugated to fluorescent tags are applied in flow cytometry for quantifying the expression of BBS proteins in specific cell populations.
